The Great Bullfight of 1884
DODGE CITY, KAN. July 5, 1884
Probably the most unique celebration in America took place here yesterday and today. The chief feature of the first day was the Spanish bull- fight, the first ever held on American soil. Hundreds of visitors came from the East to witness the fight, and the town was crowded with sightseers from all over the West. The scene at the fairgrounds was a strange one for the United States. Men and women were crowded about the stands and amphitheatre drinking and smoking together and enjoying the sports. The events were most sensational and will long be remembered in this country. Dodge City has excelled all her past notorieties.
